State District Judge, 296th Judicial District Court – Collin County, Texas
Since taking the bench on January 1, 2007, Judge Roach has presided over one of Collin County’s busiest general‑jurisdiction courts, resolving more than 36,000 cases with a substantial focus on both civil and family‑law trials—including contract disputes, personal injury claims, business torts, and high-stakes divorces and child-protection matters. He gained a reputation for courtroom efficiency through innovations like enhanced scheduling orders, mandatory mediation, and teleconferencing, all while maintaining rigorous judicial analysis.
He is the author of Roach’s Rules of Evidence published by Thomson Reuters and the co-author of Divorce in Peace with his wife, Laura, who is a family law attorney in North Texas.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (B.A.) and St. Mary’s University School of Law (J.D.), Judge Roach is respected for issuing clear, well-reasoned decisions and retaining one of the lowest reversal rates in Collin County. A lifelong Collin County resident, he blends fairness, clarity, and empathy—especially in family-law cases—with deep legal expertise. He is a former Marine and has three adult sons.
