GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
November 2022
Presentation Synopsis.
This presentation will address the unique civil rights issues faced by American Muslims. These obstacles include heightened surveillance and scrutiny, abuse of security measures such as the watchlist and no-fly list, retaliatory and coercive law enforcement practices, and religious accommodations and discrimination in the workplace. We will also present one of our more memorable cases to demonstrate how the law does not always apply equally to Muslims. Our objective is to increase awareness of how government entities often abuse discretionary powers against minoritized groups and highlight some of the ways the law can be used to push back.
